Kitchens Case Studies: Kitchen Renovation in Glenelg, MD

An outdated kitchen that needed to utilize the small space as much as possible. After spending 20 years in the same home with the same configuration it was hard to imagine creative ways that would make the space more functional. What they needed was more storage, additional counter space, and an updated kitchen that was perfect for making gourmet meals.

Because this was a town home we had to be conscious of the fire wall when we were relocating the plumbing and electrical lines. We also had limited space and a tight budget to work with.

The homeowners began by looking through our website for ideas about what exactly they would want done in their home. They decided what was important was creating a space that was easier to cook in, and having more space to sit and enjoy each others company during meal times.

The newly updated area is now furnished with all the amenities, including: granite countertops, new tiles backsplash, updated lighting, and diagonal flooring. Ceiling height Akrisoft cabinetry was installed to add on additional storage space. In order to create the space for it we removed the soffits. We also added on crown molding to make the cabinets look complete.

Keeping the cost of the renovation in mind the clients looked for areas to cut back including purchasing some of the materials needed on their own. Luckily, the items they selected meshed perfectly with the designs drawn up by the designer assigned to the project. With the additional money they had left over they decided that they would also update their powder room.

Overall, the design came together perfectly and we were able to overcome any challenges we faced along the way. Tile flooring matched their new custom backsplash, a separate cook top, an eat in peninsula, and glass wall cabinets make the kitchen comfortable and charming. In the foyer the tile flooring continues from the kitchen and the granite used in the kitchen counters is also used as a banister topper. The whole main level has a cohesive flow to it and the homeowners couldn't be more excited about their updated home.
