The Koches owned a darling stucco Cape Cod home in Catonsville. Unfortunately, the home did not have enough space to create the gourmet kitchen the homeowners always dreamed of. We created an addition to the home that would make enough room for them to expand their kitchen. Of course the homeowners were concerned about an addition being added onto the house and not blending in with the existing exterior. New masonry stucco and slate tiles were added to the exterior of the home blending the old and the new together impeccably.
Inside the kitchen light colored granite countertops rested on top of white cabinets with black brushed handles and fixtures; truly fitting in with the Cape Cod style of the home. A white porcelain farmhouse sink was under mounted, directly in front of the kitchen window, letting in a lot of natural light. The addition of new counters also meant there was room for seating, transforming the kitchen into a “eat in” kitchen. A wood slab sat atop white cabinets on the center island, directly underneath their new stained glass pendant lights. Stainless steel appliances were added, including a mounted microwave above the new gas range. The floors were completed with a marbled large square tiles. Overall the kitchen had the feel of a traditional Cape Cod style kitchen with a contemporary flare.
We were able to give the Koches family a new kitchen that had a ton of charm and character and fulfilled their wishes for having a new gourmet work space. They were so pleased with the outcome and loved how we were able to meet all of their design needs. Our construction and design was top notch, and we were able to turn their dreams into reality.
The focus of this bathroom is on the beautiful tile that was used throughout the entire bathroom design. The blue colored tile extended all the way from the floor to ceiling in the shower. The shower pan was decorated with the same blue tiles in smaller square pieces, creating contrast and carrying the design all the way through. Inside the shower was a bench for seating and two different brushed nickel shower heads. The detachable shower head gave the bathroom a real spa like feeling, and niches in the wall made a convenient space for toiletries. The glass shower door was virtually invisible meaning you can see the amazing tile work that was used throughout the entire shower stall and how it flowed into the tiles used on the floor.
On top of the vanity is a wood bowl sink which lent itself to the natural and organic vibe in the bathroom. Over top of the shower was a sun tunnel skylight, a unique way to bring in a ton of natural light without the cost and hassle of installing a huge skylight. Sun tunnels are perfect for providing natural light to rooms and spaces in your home where adding a window isn’t always an option. The energy efficient option helps make the space appear brighter, and installing it directly over the shower is amazing for enjoying a relaxing shower on a bright sunny day. Even though this bathroom isn’t very large, the beautiful design and remodel make this bathroom a luxurious, Zen-like getaway that any homeowner would love having in their home.
This kitchen desperately needed a major update, the dark colors and the cramped layout made it seem like more of a dungeon than a kitchen. The homeowners really wanted a simple and modern design that would open up the layout of the kitchen, and brighten up the main living area.
The family kept the existing hardwood floors because they were already beautifully finished and in great condition. We removed the soffits’ and bulkheads so that there was nothing obstructing the sightlines. The new kitchen layout required some relocating the plumbing in order to accommodate the new placement of the sink and dishwasher. .
Our clients chose Aristokraft cherry wood wall and base cabinets, in a wheat finish. The soft close drawers have full extension glides for optimal storage space and efficiency. For the countertops the homeowners chose Juparana Vyara granite counter tops, using the same granite for their two-tiered center island. The large stainless steel under-mounted sink was big enough for cleaning a ton of dirty dishes and blended in seamlessly with the design. The backsplash was the most eye catching feature in this beautifully renovated kitchen. Multicolored square glass tiles went halfway up the way, accentuated by the stark whiteness of the cabinetry, and pairing perfectly with the natural colored countertops.
Making this kitchen the “hub” of the home was very important to our clients, so making sure the space was bright and inviting was one of the top priorities. Since we removed two fluorescent light fixtures, we had to add in some additional lighting that would drag this space from out of the dark and into the light. We added pot lights, and two pendant lamps over top of the island, these new light installations couldn’t compete with the big beautiful skylight that let natural light flood into the kitchen. The perfect added touch for this brand new beautiful space.
In the main level powder room we tried to keep fluidity in the design among the two spaces using the same tile backsplash from the kitchen to go behind the bathroom vanity. The same granite countertops from the kitchen were accentuated by brushed nickel fixtures and the dark wood of the vanity on the cabinet. All together the two designs came together beautifully and the family was so impressed with the professional nature of our designers and team. They were able to knock two major projects off their home renovation checklist, and they can’t wait to come back and do more.
When people think about bold design ideas, they usually think of a pop of color, or funky wallpaper. These homeowners took full advantage of their bathroom renovation creating a wonderfully eclectic space, complete with a big, bold, in-your-face tile.
These wonderfully modern clients wanted to update the look and function of their bathroom, and here at Starcom that is one of things we specialize in. Thinking that these clients were going to go for simple or traditional was the farthest from the truth. Working with such a bold patterned tile is tricky because you don’t want to overwhelm to senses or accidently give yourself vertigo, especially in the shower. (Yikes!) But by mixing the boldness of the tile with more simple design elements around the bathroom there was a place to rest your eyes, and it actually made the crisp whiteness of some of the bathroom fixtures really stand out.
The glass bowl sink was also a bold choice in design; it too shared the same beautiful pattern as the wall tile, and really popped against the tan countertop. The silver wall mounted faucet and mirror added an extra element of visual interest to the design.
The homeowners were so happy with their new bathroom. It fit in perfectly with their eclectic style and their colorful home.
This kitchen remodel comes complete with all the modern conveniences with just the right amount of personality. The wide open kitchen was begging for a large center island. We were able to install a beautiful cherry wood two-tier island with cabinets for additional storage and plenty of space to include a breakfast bar. This kitchen came fully equipped with two sinks, one of which was place on the island. Splatter paint decorative pendant lights hung above the island and were the perfect touch of funky flare.
The cherry wood island cabinets matched perfectly with the rest of the cabinets installed throughout the kitchen. Glass paneling on some of the cabinet doors added an element of elegance, and allowed the home owners to show off some of their nicer china sets. Above the second kitchen sink was a large window perfect for letting natural light flow through the kitchen space, and gave the perfect view of the backyard.
The use of the backsplash was minimal but effective. Instead of going around the back wall of the kitchen, a multicolored stone backsplash was installed behind the stove and vent hood. The stone started at the ceiling and came down; elongating the ceiling height and making the room appear even larger. The colors in the stone back splash picked up the red tones in the cherry wood cabinets and played off the reddish marbled granite countertops. A large square tile was used for the floor, and mimicked the pattern seen in the counter tops.
Stainless steel appliances, including a massive new refrigerator, tied the entire look together with a modern edge. Overall this design was eclectic and fun. The continuity in the color scheme and mix of patterns, kept the eyes moving from place to place without becoming overwhelming. The homeowners are elated with their new kitchen. They love having this space to come together and enjoy mealtimes as a family, from start to finish.
Our clients were looking to add on a new garage and playroom to their ranch style home two miles outside of Silver Spring. The dad is a repeat customer of ours from 15 years prior. He previously came to us needing a modest garage for his bachelor pad and loved the results. After getting married and starting a family, the couple decided it was time to upgrade to a larger home, perfect for an active family of four. This family once again came to Starcom Design Build to help with their renovation needs.
The family requested a large 28x34 two car garage, big enough to fit the family cars, kids toys, while also incorporating the electric recharging technology for dad's future Tesla purchase. The brick siding on the garage blended seamlessly into the homes existing brick exterior. The dark brown garage doors complimented the color of the front door. Connecting the garage to the rest of the home was easy with the addition of a small hallway that doubles as a mudroom.
Inside the home, mom requested a light airy playroom for the three and five year old and also an update for the kitchen. In the kitchen and playroom we were able to bring in more natural light using Pella windows, giving the space an open and inviting feel. In the kitchen we expanded out to make more room for storage and family cooking time. Our clients requested high quality granite countertops to replace their previous counters, and opted to reuse some of their existing cabinets to cut back on cost. The final result was a modern comfortable home that this family can continue to grow in, and the family referred our services to many of their neighbors.
Our clients in Towson, Maryland had two outdated bathrooms in their home. After delaying the remodel for years, they decided to enlist the expertise of Starcom Design/Build. The homeowners were confident in their choice after researching Starcom online and reading numerous positive reviews.
Starcom was able to develop two designs for the clients that emulated their style and fit their budget. A powder room complete with ceramic tile, pedestal sink and a one-piece commode was the perfect solution for a smaller space. The master bathroom was rearranged to maximize the functionality of the room. A soaking tub, barrier-free shower and marble dual vanity gave the bathroom a timeless feel that the owner's love.
The homeowners have reported receiving countless compliments from friends and family.
Jeffrey L. had recently moved into a new house that was missing one important item... a garage! We were happy to go out to Owings Mills and evaluate the space to fit the needs of our customer. After collaborating with Jeffrey, we designed a custom garage that is properly insulated for the winter months and has plenty of windows to let in natural light. He chose stunning carriage doors that flow effortlessly with the look of his home.
He is now an extremely happy customer equipped with a 2-car garage that provides extra storage for his collection of mountain bikes.
Our customers recently moved into an older house in Gwynn Oak. They saw the potential but needed Starcom to help with the design and execution of the project. The house had 4 bedrooms that were all relatively small and no designated master. We were able to combine two of the bedrooms to create a master bathroom and a walk-in closet.
They have not only increased the value of their house but now have a relaxing retreat to come home to. The spa inspired bathroom is complete with a stone floor and a rainfall shower head, which is perfect for these busy business owners.
James and Mary had a kitchen that was out of date and very narrow. Their galley style kitchen proved difficult to have more than one person prepare dinner. We opened up a non-load bearing wall, which created the desired layout and doubled the size of the kitchen. Their home was originally built in 1957 so we replaced all of the plumbing and designed a configuration that was much more functional. A large island with a gas range and pendant lights accentuated the unique granite choice.
James and Mary chose oak cabinets that went to the ceiling and had lights installed underneath. The homeowners have reported that their new kitchen is the heart of the party and all of their friends love it.
The Simon family was running out of space in the bathroom with their three elementary school aged children. They needed a durable design that would look stylish for years to come. The previous bathroom had a pedestal sink that offered no storage for their many supplies, bath toys and towels.
They replaced the linoleum flooring with durable tile that is carried up the walls of the shower. The vertical glass mosaic accent decorates the shower without looking too busy. The new vanity provides each child with their own drawer to keep their items separate and organized. Another happy customer!
Alyssa works at a stressful job in Baltimore City and wanted a place to relax when she came home. Alyssa decided to change her barely used guest shower into a soaking tub. She wanted it to feel as if she had stepped into a spa. Neutral, calm colors helped to transform her bathroom into a tranquil and serene room that she enjoyed using.
Alyssa has been very pleased with her soaking tub and told us that she uses it every weeknight.
Our clients in Windsor Mill had a large backyard but no designated space to enjoy it. After looking at Home Advisor and reading Starcom's many positive reviews, they decided to move forward with their dream to build a large deck.
The same day the homeowners submitted their information for a free estimate, an appointment was set. They collaborated extensively with one of our award-winning designers, Tim Welsh, to customize a space that worked perfectly for them.
The clients even hosted their neighborhood wide barbecue! Their brand new deck was the envy of their guests and was the ideal location for a summer party.
The Stanger's moved into an older home in Randallstown, MD that needed some TLC. The powder room was laid out awkwardly and the toilet was extremely close to the door. We reconfigured the room and installed a durable porcelain tile to brighten up the small space. A white pedestal sink and matching toilet updated the bathroom and left the customers happy and satisfied.
