Loving their cozy home, Family in Columbia Maryland had aging parents who began visiting more often, the house started feeling uncomfortably tight. What had once been the perfect starter home no longer met their needs. They dreamed of a spacious bedroom for a ground floor In-law Suite, bedroom, and a dedicated master bathroom—places that would give everyone privacy and room to breathe. Unsure how to make it all fit without sacrificing the charm of their home, they turned to Starcom Design Build for help.

After assessing the property, Starcom quickly realized that expanding into the backyard was the most practical solution. Fortunately, the lot offered generous space, allowing the design team to add the much‑needed rooms without overwhelming the outdoor area the family loved. The new addition extended farther back than the original home ever had, threatening at first to overshadow the existing screened‑in porch. But with careful planning, Starcom aligned the new structure so that it sat nearly with the porch, creating a clean, cohesive flow from the main house to the outdoor living space.

As construction wrapped up, the transformation felt seamless—almost as if the home had always been meant for this expansion. The family gained a sprawling master bedroom and spa‑like bathroom, plus the extra bedroom they desperately needed, all while preserving a good portion of their backyard for play and relaxation. Thanks to Starcom Design Build, their once‑limited home now fit their lives beautifully, restoring both comfort and balance.

Our return customer wanted to spend more time outside without the weather interfering with their relaxation. A Screened in Porch was added to the home for both keeping the patio on the Main Floor and creating a comfortable Second Level. 

The Screened in Porch offers the ability to furnish the space without worry of rain. To keep the atmosphere still outdoorsy, two Sky Lights were put into the design of the roof. The siding also matches the original home forming a seamless look. An Outer Deck was also added to the side of the Screened in Porch for easy accessibility to the Backyard. 

The overall final result was a nice comfortable space. The space offers the flexibility for relaxing in an open concept for an outdoor attachment.  By adding a second story Screened in Porch allowed the Addition of a Deck and access to the back yard and give the Patio shade - great for gatherings! 

This client for Starcom needed more space for their expanding family. Starcom was able to build them more space with a room, closet, and bathroom! Not taking up much more space in the back yard, the project seamlessly was added to the home to accommodate the family's need for more room.

With customed color styles for the rooms, materials picked out by the client with help from the designer, this expansion to the home added more modern elements while giving the family more room to spread out. The materials used were up to date matched the home. With the home matching well with the original, the homeowner was pleased to see everything coming into focus. 

The client was able to enjoy their new space with no issue. The quality of the materials used will last a lifetime and will forever be a focal point for the new expansion. 

Transforming this home from outdated and dingy, to new and contemporary. We added stonework to the front of the home to draw the eye in and give some visual interest. The porch was updated and redone, and the entire house was given all new siding in a new color to really change the whole look of the home. That's curb appeal!

Features of the completed Addition was the bedroom, Bathroom with Bath/Shower, ample Storage space, and a small cozy Sunroom overlooking the backyard. With the final punch list completed, the family now enjoys the space peacefully. The space is not only for looks that work well matching with the original design of their home but also functionality of the space for the Family's needs.
