Family looking to remodel the rear of their home came to Starcom Design Build for a Screened in Porch to be more open and bigger and a rework of the Deck.
The expansion of a screen porch with a Double Gable Design to 355 sq ft, complemented by a new 144 sq ft open Deck with steps, is a substantial home improvement project. The use of Fibercon Good Life Composite Decking ensures a durable and low-maintenance surface, while the black aluminum screen and white post covers add a modern aesthetic. The monumental white vinyl railing with black aluminum balusters will provide safety and a visually appealing contrast.
The installation of a new white screen door enhances accessibility and ventilation. For the ceiling, T111 paneling is chosen for its sturdy, textured appearance, and the white 5” clapboard vinyl siding will give the new Screen Porch back wall a classic finish. The creation of four exposed beams from unfinished 1x6 lumber will add a rustic touch to the design.
A white full-view screen/glass door on the side wall leading to the deck addresses the practical need to protect against pets, while the steel insulated full-view outswing door at the dining room's back wall offers a secure and energy-efficient exit. The addition of two fixed windows on either side of this door will allow natural light to flood the dining area.
The choice of Pella Encompass white vinyl windows with Low E Argon Glass ensures energy efficiency without compromising on style, as they lack grids for a clean, modern look. The installation of four Velux 2x6 fixed skylights with Low E Argon Glass will invite additional daylight into the space, enhancing the ambiance.
For lighting, eight Pendant Lights, controlled by four switches and a dimmer, will provide adjustable illumination. Five interior outlets and one outdoor outlet facing the deck offer convenience for electrical needs. The inclusion of two ceiling fans will aid in air circulation, and three double spotlights will accentuate key features of the porch.
This comprehensive plan combines functionality with aesthetics, creating an inviting outdoor living space that is both practical and stylish.
Our clients came to us looking to update the look of the front of their house. They decided that the addition of a portico would be just what their home needed to give it a fresh new look.
The family owned a traditional style home and wanted elements that were keeping with that particular style. Above the front door, at the top of the portico, they added a railing that fit right in with the style the home already had. The new railing framed the beautiful arched transom window they had above their front door. They also wanted large columns for a grand and opulent look. The portico was all white and really stood out amongst the brick exterior of the home.
For the porch below the portico and for the walkway we installed beautiful bluestone pavers that were keeping with the style of the home; and also offset the blue shutters the family already had. As the final touch the family switched out their old blue door for a beautiful wooden door with decorative glass. It was the perfect addition to this upgrade that punched up the look of the home.
Now that the family’s home has a ton of curb appeal they are in love with the look of their home. They said, “The front porch set our home off. We wish we did this project 15 years ago!”
